Key Points

  • Proofreading is when you revise your paper and check for any errors before it is uploaded.
  • You should proofread your work several times so allow enough time for this phase.
  • Microsoft editor, Grammarly and Turnitin can all help with proofreading.
  • Use the checklist below to help you proofread your paper.

Tips to make your writing flow overall coherence.

  • Label your paragraphs in the margin with few words that sum up the paragraph. Check that each paragraph is focus on one main idea.
  • Ensure you have topic sentences and/or headings that help the reader recognise the main idea of each paragraph/ or section.
  • Check that paragraphs are in a logical order and that there is no repetition of main idea of each paragraph or section.
  • Revise the introduction to ensure that it matches the body of the paper.

Phase 1: Review the content

Have I addressed all parts of the assessment task?

Have I included intext citations from the textbook and other academic sources to support my ideas?

Have I checked my work against the marking criteria?

Phase 2: Review the structure

Have I structured the information in clear sections with one main idea per paragraph?

Have I used complete sentences that are not missing any information?

Have I used linking words to help the sentences and ideas flow?

Phase 3: Review the style

Have I written in a formal and professional style?

Have I paraphrased as much as possible?

Have I written in a clear style? Do I understand all the words and phrases I have used?

Have I referenced the information I have incorporated from sources using correct referencing style?

Phase 4: Review the grammar, punctuation, and spelling

Have I run a spelling and grammar check on my paper?

Have I read my paper aloud to make sure my sentence are clear and not too long or short?

Phase 5: Review the presentation

Have I included college’s assessment cover sheet?

Have I formatted my paper clearly, consistently, and professionally in line with college’s presentation guideline?

Have I acknowledged any use of AI tools?

Have I reviewed my Turnitin similarity score?
